Club Safety

Safety is a top priority for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado.

Safe Buildings, Staff and Procedures

Our buildings are constantly monitored to ensure security. Our front desk staff check kids, visitors and staff in and out. At our school-based site, we partner with school administration to provide secure, controlled entry.

Staff are trained to quickly and calmly initiate lockdown procedures if the need arises. We consistently evaluate our procedures to align with industry best practices.

Those who work or volunteer in our Clubs must pass extensive background checks and undergo regular safety training. All staff members are mandatory reporters and are trained on how to respond in instances of suspected child abuse or neglect.

External Safety Assessments

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado participates in annual external safety reviews conducted by certified, independent assessors. Recommendations received are reviewed by the Club’s safety committee, composed of BGCNWC Board members, and implemented into policy and practice by the Executive Director.

Safe Sports

All staff at Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado are first aid and CPR certified and AED trained. We ensure all of our programs, including sports, are emotionally safe for all participants. We allow all kids to participate in practice and games, regardless of skill level.

Social Emotional Learning

SEL is foundational to all Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Colorado programs. Staff incorporate SEL concepts to create safe spaces for all kids. Our programming includes bi-imonthly, individual and group social-emotional learning sessions for all members.

Our dedicated teams support the mental health of all staff and members. Our partnerships with local mental health organizations and professionals help facilitate making referrals where necessary.
