Information about the camp
Emily will be working with the Boys & Girls Club over the holiday break and at the beginning of January! Students will learn basic theatre games and exercises (through improv and clowning), vocal and physical warmups, and the beginnings of song and scene work, all of which will culminate in little performances while driving home the main objective of our work as actors: having fun!
This group will work on one of my favorite Broadway shows: Matilda! Because we’ll have time over five days, we’ll assign roles for some condensed scenes, and work on a couple of group numbers from this piece. Some kids can even tackle a solo if they’d like!
Emily’s Bio
Emily Stout is thrilled to make a return to Steamboat and join Boys & Girls Club of Steamboat this holiday season! Emily grew up doing theatre in Steamboat and spent every summer of her childhood at Perry Mansfield. After earning her BA in Acting at Fordham University at Lincoln Center and her MFA in Acting at the University of California, San Diego, she has worked as both a professional actor and theatre educator across the country.
As a performer, she’s worked at theaters such as La Jolla Playhouse, Manhattan Theatre Club, South Coast Repertory, The Geffen Playhouse, Seattle Rep, and Actors Theatre of Louisville, among others. As a teaching artist, she’s worked with Child’s Play NY for 10 years, directing and choreographing mini-musicals, coaching children’s auditions, and developing curriculum. She currently resides in Los Angeles, where she works for Theatre 31, directing shows within the Santa Monica and Malibu school districts. She believes that theatre is a deeply powerful tool for communication, and that whether or not a child pursues a path in the arts, we learn so much about ourselves through characters and stories!
